Products - vBook Advantages

Viewing Requirements
All that is required to view a vBook is a browser (ie Internet Explorer) and an internet
connection. No downloads of special software are needed.
Navigation Options
Table of Contents - Just like in a hard copy book, the Table of Contents (TOC) provides an outline of the contents of
your book. The Table of Contents can be navigated a number of ways: using the Collapse and Expand buttons, which open
or close the TOC one level; clicking through the TOC; or by using the Next and Previous buttons which takes you to
the next or previous page in the TOC.
Index - Clicking on an item in the index displays a list of pages for that particular item. When you click on one
of the items in the index, you are taken to that page in the vBook, and highlights where
you are in the Table of Contents.
Search Bar - The search bar performs a Natural Language Search on the content of the vBook
and displays a list of results. Clicking on a search result takes you to that page in the vBook and highlights where
you are in the Table of Contents.
Unification and Separation of Knowledge
Because the vBooks are isolated entities they can easily be distributed on an individual
need-to-have basis. Users no longer have to sift through massive amounts of content that is not relevant to them,
when they, in reality, only need to have access to a portion of all information.
Also, remember that the Custom vBooks can be placed in each user's individual vOffice or vLibrary.
This means that users can access internally produced content from the very same place they access the pre-built
vBooks. The result is an extremely flexible and entirely customizable
Information Distribution Solution.
Viewing and Editing Privileges
On the vBook level there are two types of user access privileges:
Content Viewing Privileges: Users with this access level can only view the content of the vBook.
Content Editing Privileges: Users with this access level (Authors/Content Matter Experts) can both view
and edit the content of the vBook.
This, of course, means that a user can have different access levels for different vBooks,
but still access them all via their individual vOffice.
Notification Options
There are two options that Authors/Content Matter Expert (CME) can use to notify users of new, updated, changed,
or deleted content.
Passive: When a change is made to a piece of content, the CME can flag this content - the next time a user logs in,
that piece of content is marked with a red indicator dot indicating that there has been a change. The content
remains flagged in the user's book until he/she has viewed it.
Active: Active notification enables the CME to proactively notify users when a change is made to a piece of
content or new content has been added to the vBook. This active notification can be used to email everyone who
has the vBook in their vOffice. The CME can track which users have/have not viewed the changed content,
and follow up accordingly.
Content Updates
Because vBooks are online, content revisions or additions are instantly available to all users that have
access to the vBook. The process of downloading updated pdf documents or reprinting hard copy materials is
avoided with vBooks.
Content Review Dates
Authors/Content Matter Experts (CMEs) have the ability to set notifications on their own content so that they know when
it needs to be re-visited/reviewed. A CME sets a review date for a piece of content, and is then automatically
notified prior to this date.
Content Flexibility
Unlike printed materials, vBooks can be built using any combination of audio, video (screen capture and full motion)
Flash, text, documents, or images. Flash gives book builders a lot of flexibility in the type of content
that can be included in the vBook such as calculators and surveys. Not only does it give you greater flexibility
but also allows you to add content that best suits you and your audience.
